Clonaslee, Banbridge

Clonaslee is a distinguished B1-listed late Victorian residence of architectural and historic significance, constructed c.1900 to the designs of the renowned architect Henry Hobart. Positioned on the west side of Lurgan Road in Banbridge, this two-storey-with-attic, red-brick detached house is defined by its elegant veranda, finely executed decorative brick detailing, and carefully composed elevations, all characteristic of Hobart’s refined domestic architecture.

Clonaslee has remained in the stewardship of the Ferguson family for four generations, reflecting a continuous legacy of the prominent linen manufacturer Thomas Ferguson & Co. Ltd, which firmly anchors the house within Banbridge’s rich industrial and textile heritage.

The historic setting is further enriched by a series of surviving ancillary outbuildings to the north, including former stores, a garage with a playroom above, and a now-derelict greenhouse. We assisted the family in developing sensitive proposals for the adaptive reuse of these structures, ensuring their continued viability while maintaining a strong architectural and heritage relationship with the principal villa.
